Yet another one of my favorite elf.... I know I know, just a boring portrait shot, but I am sick, have a bad cold with temperature and all and my muse seems to be asleep... so I worked on my shader-technique a bit to get better results for skin... I think it worked out! I never bothered trying Subsurface Scattering and Transluency settings before but with my new computer, this one here only took about 7 minutes to get rendered - even though the settings have been rather high. The original picture is much bigger and I have had UberEnviroment in the scene with 128 Occlusion samples.... plus a spot light. Next step will be to purchase the Reality plugin, but for this I have no money at the moment.

DAZ Studio 4 render and photoshop painting, as always. Character is my own. Gosh, how I love my elf...

Looks good. I've been experimenting w/ SSS lately myself, and I keep saying that one of these days I'll get Reality, too...but, like you, no moolah for it yet!

I've found so far that using SSS on drow and darker skin is a bit harder to accurately configure (especially if you throw Velvet settings into the mix). I guess translucency tends to lend itself better to lighter skin IRL, though, but I still can't quite get it to work so that light coming from behind a person makes their ears "glow" red, regardless of skin tone.

One thing about this, though: it seems like the skin on his neck is lighter than his face. Are your settings perhaps different there...?
